Graduation Day 2X
June was a very busy month for the Murray’s. I missed almost two weeks of posting because life got in the way but I say that in a positive way. June was the month my son ended his elementary/middle school journey. My daughter ended her elementary journey and will enter middle school in September. Naif will embark on a new phase of his life called High School. I am still processing this reality. At times I am in disbelief the fact that I have a fourteen year old, let alone I’m a mother of two.
June 11, 2019 was a joyous day. To see my child walk down the aisle and walk across the stage was bittersweet. Sweet because he accomplished all the requirements of Eighth grade despite a little hiccup. Each school year middle-school students have to complete a Final Performance Task which is factored into their final grade. Naif performed his FPT on June 3, 2019 but unfortunately he had to go before the panel twice because they stated he needed more evidence to support his argument. Sweet because after the second attempt he conquered the task and knocked it out the park. Bitter because my parents weren’t there physically to witness their grandson accomplish this milestone. My father passed away a year ago and my mother it’s going on 8 years which still feel like yesterday.
When my son moved up to middle school in 2014 my god-mother reached out to me and asked if I could include her in any major event going forward. I must admit Arlene has been there for my siblings and I since the passing of my mother always checking in which is amazing. My god-mother showed up to Naif’s graduation with her camera and all. I have to admit my mother chose the perfect god-parent because even as an adult we still need the extra support when precious moments like this occur. Naif’s paternal Grandfather, Aunt and cousin was also in attendance to cheer him on. It was a good day! (Ice Cube voice)
The very next day my daughter’s moving up to middle school ceremony took place. I didn’t want to burden my god-mother with two nights in a row so she received a pass. Sadiah received two awards that evening “Homework Super Star & Student of the Year” It was a long awesome night. Because Sadiah is a social butterfly we had to meet up with her classmate at the Italian restaurant we all frequent on a regular basis. We finally made it home by 10:30/11pm for the second night in a row. I tell you I was exhausted!
June 2019 was the last school year my son and daughter will ever be in the same school. When she reach High School he will be off to college. They are really growing up before my eyes and I’m loving the journey.
