Denim & Denim

You can never go wrong with denim. There are soooooo many ways to wear jeans. Did you that know jeans are made from denim or dungaree cloth.
You are probably asking yourself what the heck is dungaree? Well my brother had the same reaction when he was around 8 or 9 yrs old when my grandmother told him to put on his dungarees…. lol I can only imagine the look or blank-stare on his face. We still laugh about it years later, LOVE that lady!

But did you know that jeans were invented by Jacob Davis with the help of Levi Strauss & Co back in 1873. Oh I thought I’ll enlighten you this Sunday morning with that fun fact. To be quite honest with you I just googled the history of denim and there you go. Kids today have all the information they need at their fingertips. Back in the day we had to go to our local library (which I still do with my kids to check out books) or use the encyclopedia collection our parents purchased from some random person who showed up at our doorstep one Saturday afternoon.

All that to say, jeans or dungarees whichever you prefer to call them will never go out of style. They are here for the long haul. There are numerous ways to style your jeans. You can throw on your jeans with a T-shirt and sneakers to run to Target or do laundry. You can style your jeans with a crisp white shirt, a blazer, and stilettos or ankle boots for a dinner date or a night out on the town. Whichever way you choose to wear them Just Own It!!

Denim & White Crisp

My first look I chose to pair my jeans & shirt from Banana Republic with Zara ballet flats and a Super Soft Teddy texture coat from Abercrombie & Fitch.

My second look I wore the same jean shirt, I added my oversized bow tie which actually came with the shirt, Target high waisted mom jeans, vintage Gucci sandals (added platform support) Chanel inspired Zara blazer (bday gift) and JCrew light weight wool overcoat.

I’m sure you’ve noticed how creators are doing so much with denim today: Splash paint, patchwork, bleaching, distress, capes, kimonos, etc. My father disliked distress jeans, he couldn’t understand the concept of buying ripped or discolored jeans it just didn’t make sense to him. I remember my brother disclosing my business to my father when I purchased my first pair of diesel jeans. My father was lecturing him about something when he found the need to include me in on the matter. I guess that was his only way out after being interrogated about his poor choice in buying dirty jeans… haha I was forced on the witness stand because of his choice in jeans. I’ll never forget that day boy do I have stories for days. In the meantime share a story surrounding your denim outfit I would love to hear.

OMG.. Wow.. I wasn’t expecting to read about that family story with Grandma & the first time I heard dungarees. lol. I remember that moment like it was yesterday. Those were the good ole days and it shows we can all learn something from our elders whether big or small. Even tho our father didn’t understand the fashion trends of wearing distressed or dirty denim at the time. lol
I agree, denim well always be a forever classic. Whether it be jeans, a shirt or a jacket.
At this moment, my very favorite pair I own is a pair from Zara, a gray distressed slim cut.
