Tweed & Trench

“Dress how you want to be addressed” Very profound statement! What does that mean to you? For me I believe people treat and respect each other based on how they are dressed. For example, if you are going on an interview for a new job you should dress accordingly. For women a nice navy, black, or gray pants/skirt suit. Always wear stockings whether it’s 30 or 90 degrees outside. And wear a professional oxford shirt no cleavage!! Be prepared of course but always dress professional. I believe not only will you be taken seriously you also set the tone.

I can hear my husband saying now, “They hired you as a professional dress like a professional.” So what does “professional” mean to Sadiq? I think if it was up to Sadiq, I would be going to Brooks Brother in The Mall at Short Hills purchasing women’s suits and dresses as if I work on Wall Street or “Corporate America.” In fact I don’t think he doesn’t see my choice in clothes as unprofessional or inappropriate, he just can’t get passed the colors I love in my closet.

When Sadiq offered to buy to me a few pieces for work I picked up this tweed skirt and shirt from Banana Republic.  BR is another one of my favorite stores they always have a special or sale going on.  But first thing first whenever I walk into any store my first instinct is to go directly to the sale or clearance rack.  I find most of my lovely pieces there. Remember I’m a frugal shopper! And there’s nothing wrong with that name one person you know who likes to pay full price…. I’ll wait (crickets).  I didn’t find the skirt on clearance however, it was I believe 40% off which was a steal.  It’s such a classic timeless piece something I don’t have to worry about going out of style.  I received so many compliments at work when I wore it.  Don’t ask me why it took a year to finally wear it. I think I was struggling with what shoes I should wear.  I could have chosen black patent leather pumps or my nude sandals but I opted to be comfortable so I wore my ballet lace flats.

Lets discuss this classic timeless trench coat.  I fell in love the minute I laid eyes on it.  It is perfectly hand crafted. The quality of the material, the buttons, down to the meticulous center pleats that run down the back of the coat.  When I wore it I felt like an attorney on her way to meet her client at the court house….(smile) How do you feel when you are dressed to par? I take pride in getting dress.  It is like the feeling people have when they receive a makeover. They tend to feel confident and secure.

Last I would like to give my little opinion on what every woman should own in her closet that can be on constant rotation.  The first essential garment is a “White Blouse” you can wear this piece of clothing with just about everything jeans, skirt, trousers, shorts, etc. Next would be a “Black Pair of Heels or Flats” whichever is your forte. Black is so versatile and basic.  Third I would say a “Black Dress” you can wear this garment out to dinner, party, or an interview.  Last but not least a “Black Overcoat” you need a basic coat to wear to church, work, or once again to an interview. Oh and let me not forget a lil black purse!

If I missed anything let me know. Also tell me what are your essential pieces in your wardrobe.
