Staycation Hoboken
This post is not sponsored all thoughts and opinions are my own.
When was the last time you’ve been on a staycation? We typically like to change up the scenery every month or every other month. My children especially Sadiah (daughter) are always asking “Can we stay at a hotel.” I’ve been promising to take her by the new Hilton on Route 22 in Springfield NJ. She has a fascination with hotels. I tell you “Generation Z” have Champagne taste with a Snapple budget. I guess who is to blame, we created this mini. What can I say she has great taste!
This past weekend my husband asked me if I wanted to stay out and of course I replied, “YES” It was perfect because it was Mother’s Day weekend. I was inspired by my friend more like family (Zara) who celebrated her birthday in NYC two weeks earlier. We met Zara at her hotel before we went out for dinner. Zara’s hotel room had an amazing panoramic view of the Hudson River as well as the city. While I was there I remember seeing the W Hotel across the Hudson. The big red bright capital W on top of the sky-scraper shined and sparkled across the river. I thought hey that would be the perfect place to stay for the weekend. Without hesitation I went online to book the room. Unbeknownst to me the W Hotel is an affiliate of The Marriott Hotel chain and if you know me you know I’m a Marriott girl.
Sadiq arranged for a sitter and off we went to the land of a kid free weekend. I usually have mother’s guilt when I leave the kids but self-care and sanity is way more important! Don’t judge me. We checked into the hotel where we were politely upgraded to a spectacular view room. I guess that’s the perk of being a BONVoY member. We put our bags down enjoyed the views for a few minutes then headed outside for a closer look. We ate ice-cream down by the waterfront where we took in the sight of sailboats, jet ski’s, water taxi’s, scurrying across the water. The Empire State building was situated directly across the Hudson and as we glanced to the right The Freedom Tower stood tall and proud. We soaked up the views for quite some time then aimlessly started walking along the park. I wanted to ride the bikes but the day before I had a little spill so that idea went straight out to sea. I’ll be ready to discuss it at later time once my knee heal…. smh
The evening was young so we strolled around the area sightseeing. There were tons of places to eat however my cousin Tracie recommended Coco Havana Cafe & Lounge a couple of years ago. I spotted the restaurant as soon as we turned onto to River Street. It is next to a walk up bar where I think people were performing Karaoke, it was LIVE!! We grabbed a menu to see what they had to offer then continued to walk around before doubling back to eat at Coco Havana. The night air was crisp so we chose to sit outside although it began to drizzle about fifteen minutes in but nothing major there was a cover which protected us. When I looked down the street about a block away the Hudson River sat at the edge as well as a partial view of the city skyline, my view was amazing! I ordered the pineapple salmon with black beans and sautéed spinach. My husband chose the oxtails with black beans and sautéed spinach. Our entrée’s were delicious. Hoboken reminds me of a mini village in NYC with less honking of horns and buses. There were an abundance of yellow taxi cabs circling the area because the train station is around the corner from the restaurant. The atmosphere was fun and relaxing.
After dinner we made our way back to the hotel. I have a new found love for Hoboken. On Washington St there are so many different cafe’s to try. The following day I tried Empanadas Cafe. I had the vegetable & chicken empanada. When I go back I would love to visit Madd Hatter. Madd Hatter appeared to be a fun family eatery it was the loudest restaurant on the block. The music was going and the people were having a good time. I checked online to see their menu and the entree’s look very appealing.
We had a wonderful weekend too bad it rained on Mother’s Day but I’m happy we were able to enjoy the weather on Saturday. Room service, Breakfast in bed, Quiet time reading my book and magazines, QT with hubby, plus amazing views. What more can a girl ask for? Ladies we have to make sure we take care of ourselves. If you work hard, take care of the kids, manage household chores, extra-curricula activities, and a personal Uber driver for the mini’s you deserve time off I’ll sign the prescription.
Are you are interested in visiting Hoboken, this Sunday May 19th is the Arts & Music Festival. Have you ever been to Hoboken? Do you think you would ever visit? Let me know in the comments below. I’m going to upload the video to my YouTube channel Subscribe and Follow along ……

I love discovering new places in the neighborhood sometimes you don’t have to go far to have some luxury and relaxation. It sounds like you enjoyed this! I love spending nights in the NYC I don’t do it often because it can become costly but it’s def something fun to do once in a while. Thanks for sharing 😊 p.s the food looks amazing !

Hey Tah, yes the breakfast was delicious and the room service guy was super nice he made sure our food was correct and told us to call if we needed anything even to pick up the tray. I can say it was a great experience. I wanted to chill in the lounge but maybe next time. Thanks for sharing!

I love a good staycation but I am also guilty of not exploring my own space too!
I love that “champagne taste with a snapple budget” that made me laugh too much!
